Losing The Sponge
This film was creative chaos and I loved every second of making it. I was going through a period creatively in which I really enjoyed in the "personal" and "raw".
I was a huge fan of the Fluxus films and had just watched Razor Blades by Paul Sharits which threw what I knew about film into a spin. I explored the feeling of letting go.
I was working in kitchens for 2 years at this point and found little moments of inspiration and metaphors that felt really powerful. Being a kitchen porter with not much else to do but wash dishes your mind does travel around. One particular thought that kept coming back was how comfortable a used sponge feels. Throwing it away and getting a new one was one of the worst part of my week. I thought about how I cling to relationships and people and how letting go of those was hard in the same way letting go of this sponge was.
Is change a good thing, and what happens to those who don't allow for it to flow past.
