Eclipse an ongoing exploration of 3D Scanning
I made this little film for the 50th anniversary competition for Pink Floyd. I have loved the song since I was a young boy, it has always been about impermanence to me and how everything we build up in our minds is just here for a blink of an eye.
On a windy day while walking down a beach in the south of England I decided that sea shells where the perfect metaphor for what I had in mind. My partner begrudgingly helped me collect about 150-200 shells and we took them home to 3D scan.
I loved how abandoned and eroded these shells were; these shells which once not only held life but were built out of nothing. I found the process of scanning them and thus preserving them in a digital timeline not previously accessable to them to be very inspiring.
I connected them in my head to cities and civilisations, that over the course of forever breakdown and disappear into nothing.
This project got me hooked into 3D scanning and its capabilities.
